They glide around the corners of this pack effortlessly—and that’s not something we can say for a lot of bags. Got a favorite local shop that would be the perfect fit for Peak Design gear? We case our eye over the options costing more than $2500 but less than $4000, to find the best all-rounder. The Fujifilm X100VI is the sixth iteration of Fujifilm's classically-styled large sensor compact. A 40MP X-Trans sensor, in-body stabilization and 6.2K video are among the updates. I've been traveling with the ED 20L v2 as my 'personal item' for a while now and so far I've always been able to fit it under the airplane seat on a variety of airlines.

Finally, there are three carrying straps—a leather top strap, and two fabric handles on either side—meaning you can easily carry this thing, however, you’d like. This, combined with the luggage sleeve, makes it a great travel bag. You can easily pick up the bag without actually strapping it to your back.

I had the v2 in hand, but found the changes, particulalrly with the interior pockets, to be a downgrade from the v1 that I have. The velcro area inside for the divider attachment is also smaller, so I couldn't space out the dividers how I have them currently--it was basically a non-starter for configuring the bag to fit my gear. For packs that's around liters or smaller you have to have a short back (or find a pack that's really tall for its volume) to get any weight on a hip belt. A thin strap can still be quite useful for stabilizing the pack in high intensity activities. My preference for small packs is a strap/thin hip belt that's removable.

I agree this bag looks relly nice but this seems like a bag for no pros that work for real environment and sometimes stressful. I use my bag only on vaccaion nad private photo and thats ok for that. I just don't like the way the metal touches my shirt.

Sternum Strap

We’re totally nitpicking—but hey, that’s what we’re here for. That said, the side water bottle pockets are great overall. It’s a super-minor detail, but still surprising given all the other design considerations and attention to detail going on with this bag. Between those two points is the removable sternum strap, which offers three different areas for adjustment. Let’s start with the harness system—it’s been a hot topic in the Pack Hacker community. To summarize our findings, Peak Design has improved the harness system on the Everyday Backpack (V2) quite a bit compared to V1, but it’s still not the best harness system out there.

The nylon on the straps is patched and they probably should be replaced, but the pack itself is “better than new”. I have a (literal) closet full of various “outdoor” bags and spent nearly a decade “studying” them to better outfit customers. I have dropped cameras and lenses out of the side on several occasions (at least I know to only open the bag on the ground or on a table). I only haven’t got rid of it as I don’t want to inflict it on someone else. At lot of people criticize these bags and their pricing, but I just wanted to share my experience with them.

I was at the beginning a fan of Peak Design but the more and the longer i used their products I have to say there is a lot of hype behind it and the prices are getting ridiculous. The quality is good but not premium as the price suggests. I like the pack, but turns out I hate riding with anything on my back. If you’re in the US, the REI Flash series is fairly lightweight and an excellent value.

It’s a versatile bag that can be used in a lot of different situations, however, we think it’s best for video and photo equipment. On the side, you will find pockets that are totally flat when not in use but can expand to fit large water bottles or whatever else you might need quick access to. They do this by using some elastic straps, which we weren’t super thrilled about. The other problem we found with these is that, when full, they hinder your ability to access the main compartment from the side.

Continuing on the theme of magnets, you’ll find that the signature MagLatch feature of the Everyday Backpack V2 has also been improved by Peak Design. These also hold the luggage pass-through tight against the body of the bag. It’s no longer held down by velcro, and although it wasn’t necessarily a troublesome task to do so before, it’s now even easier to place your Everyday Backpack V2 atop of your wheeled luggage. Its rigid structure never falters, and with the wide opening side access points and large top lid, you’ll be able to pack or access your gear and move on with efficiency. Christine Romero-Chan was formerly a Senior Editor for iMore. She has been writing about technology, specifically Apple, for over a decade at a variety of websites.

I also have a proper, load distributing backpack to use when needed — to carry camp gear along with cameras. It is how I get my GFX gear on the airplane, that and the PD Everyday messenger "briefcase". If you pick the bag up and forget to zip shot one of the sides, disaster can occur as your lenses slide out and hit the ground. The side panels are what makes the pack great, but it is also dangerous.

But regrettably vanished with V3, which is also not compatible with plates from V1. Miss a lot of shots that require a zoom lens or happen quickly in low light, I'd imagine. Subjective or course , but my early model 20l works fine with the clip. Its basically always on there , even when using the bag with no gear inside.

It’s (finally) time to get into the main compartment of the Peak Design Everyday Backpack 30L (V2). There are three ways to access the main compartment—the top flap that opens up in a top-loader style and the two side zips. Unique MagLatch hardware provides lightning fast top access, with dual side access via two weatherproof UltraZips. See Features below, or check out exact dimensions.Check out the standard Everyday Backpack for more internal/external capacity, expandability, and organization. The zippers providing access to the side entry points of the bag never snag and consistently slide open smoothly without resistance, allowing you to access your gear on the go without frustration.

Read on to find out which portable enthusiast compacts are our favorites. My other note is the side pockets are too shallow to reliably hold water bottles and similar items. Thanks for pointing that out, I missed that when I skimmed the article, and I now stand corrected.

Funny enough though, my 1 Lowepro bag I do have has TERRIBLE straps. It was the gen 1 photosport 200 aw (bright orange). Great bag that could hold up to awful abuse, but those straps... @jaberg can I ask what you would consider a great lightweight bag? I like both a lot, but sometimes I want something super light weight.
